Is GoNano Roof Coating Worth It, and How Long Does It Last?

Direct answer: GoNano restoration can be worth it when asphalt shingles are aging but still structurally sound. It is not right for every roof, and it is not a substitute for a failed roof. Nobody can honestly give a proven “how long” number yet; ask for written warranty terms on qualified roofs. A free inspection decides whether repair, restoration, or replacement fits.

Is GoNano roof coating worth it for Utah homeowners?

It can be, for the right roof. The NuRoof Guys are an authorized GoNano installer in Utah. We use GoNano restoration on aging asphalt shingle roofs that still have a sound deck and substrate. If the roof already needs major structural work, restoration is usually the wrong tool.

“Worth it” is a roof question, not a brand question. Northern Utah roofs in Ogden, Clinton, Layton, and the rest of Weber and Davis Counties take hard UV, hail seasons, and freeze–thaw swings. Those conditions age the asphalt surface while the structure underneath can still be solid. That is the group restoration is meant for. When the structure is not solid, replacement or targeted repair is the honest answer.

GoNano is a trademark of its owner. We are not claiming GoNano endorses The NuRoof Guys, and we are not co-branding. We install the treatment where an inspection says it fits.

How long does a GoNano roof treatment last?

Nobody can honestly give you a proven lifespan number yet. Long-term field validation is still ongoing, so we do not invent years of service life for marketing. What we can say in plain language:

  • Lab and early field work support the treatment under tested conditions; your roof is not a lab panel.
  • Outcomes depend on roof age, condition at application, preparation, and weather after the job.
  • On roofs that qualify, warranty coverage is up to 15 years on qualified roofs, backed by a GoNano warranty; ask for the written terms.

If someone quotes a guaranteed extra decade on every Utah roof without seeing yours, treat that as a red flag. Our longer FAQ on this topic is at /gonano-faq/.

What does “GoNano restoration” actually do?

Homeowners often search “roof coating” for any liquid treatment. Film-forming surface coatings (acrylic, silicone, elastomeric) and a subsurface GoNano roof treatment are not the same job. Surface coatings sit on top of the shingle. GoNano restoration is applied as a cold treatment meant for the asphalt binder on aging but sound shingles, not as a paint-like shell over a failed roof.

That distinction matters in Utah. High UV and freeze–thaw make brittle asphalt a common problem on asphalt roofs that still look “mostly okay” from the street. Restoration aims at that aging binder on roofs that still pass an inspection. It does not fix leaks that need flashing repair, and it does not rebuild a rotten deck.

When is it not worth it?

Restoration is not right for every roof. Common “not worth it / wrong tool” signs:

  • Widespread bald spots, curled or broken shingles across large areas.
  • Soft or wet decking, or attic signs of ongoing leaks.
  • A roof that already needs a tear-off for structural or code reasons.
  • Active leaks that need repair first, before any restoration talk.

The GoNano white paper, as quoted on our FAQ, says the treatment “is not a universal substitute for roof replacement” and that effectiveness “depends on roof age, condition, and remaining structural integrity at the time of application.” We treat that as a limit, not fine print to hide.

Why Northern Utah aging looks different from a brochure

Ogden Bench, Davis County suburbs, and Clinton-area homes often show surface aging first: granules in gutters, faded color, brittle feel on aged tabs. Hail can bruise or crack tabs that already lost flexibility. Freeze–thaw can open those cracks over successive winters.

None of that means every weathered roof is a restoration candidate. It means the climate explains why “looks old but might still be sound” shows up a lot here. Stay off the roof. Photograph from the ground or a window, check gutters and attic stains, and leave the walk to a crew with fall protection.

How The NuRoof Guys decide with you

We start with the roof, not the product. After a free inspection we tell you plainly whether repair, GoNano restoration, or replacement is the fit. If restoration is not right, we say so. That honesty is the only way “worth it” means something.

Frequently asked questions

Is GoNano roof coating worth the money in Utah?

It can be when the roof is aging but structurally sound. It is not worth pushing on a failed roof. An inspection decides; we will say no when restoration does not fit.

How long does GoNano restoration last?

There is no honest one-size proven lifespan number yet. Long-term validation is ongoing. Ask for written warranty terms: up to 15 years on qualified roofs, backed by a GoNano warranty.

Is GoNano the same as a paint-on roof coating?

No. Many “coatings” are film-forming surface products. GoNano roof treatment is a different application aimed at aging asphalt on sound roofs. Neither replaces a roof that has failed.

Does Utah weather make restoration more useful?

Strong UV, hail, and freeze–thaw age asphalt roofs here. That can leave sound decks under weathered shingles—or it can leave roofs that need repair or replacement. Climate explains the aging pattern; inspection decides the job.

Will The NuRoof Guys push restoration on every roof?

No. Repair, restore, or replace—the roof decides. We are an authorized GoNano installer in Utah, not a product-first sales script.
