Direct answer: Roof restoration does not automatically “qualify” for insurance after hail in Utah. Coverage depends on your policy, the cause of damage, documentation, and your carrier’s rules. The NuRoof Guys do not promise claim approval. Call your agent, document safely from the ground, and use a professional inspection so repair, restoration, or replacement is based on the roof—not a slogan.

Does roof restoration qualify for insurance after hail in Utah?

There is no statewide yes/no answer. Homeowners insurance is a contract between you and your insurer. Some hail claims pay for repairs. Some lead to partial or full replacement. Whether a carrier will consider GoNano restoration or another treatment as an allowable scope is a policy and adjuster question, not something a contractor can guarantee.

The NuRoof Guys serve Ogden, Clinton, Layton, Kaysville, and the broader Weber and Davis County area. After a storm we help document roof condition. We do not sell “we’ll get it approved.” That promise would be dishonest.

What Utah’s Insurance Department says to do after damage

Fact (Utah Insurance Department, Home Claims Information): if your home is damaged, contact your insurance company or agent promptly with your policy number; cooperate and ask what documents they need; photograph or video the damage; make only temporary repairs needed to prevent further damage; do not make permanent repairs until the insurer has inspected and you have agreed on cost; save all receipts, including temporary repairs.

Interpretation (ours): those steps apply whether the eventual scope is repair, restoration, or replacement. Skipping documentation or rushing a permanent treatment before the carrier looks can create problems that have nothing to do with which product you like.

Repair, restore, or replace after hail—who decides?

Three different decisions often get mashed together:

  1. What the roof needs — Local bruise vs widespread failure. See /post/repair-restore-or-replace-utah-roof/ and local inspection context in /post/hail-damage-roof-inspection-layton-kaysville/.
  2. What the policy covers — Perils, deductibles (including wind/hail deductibles some policies use), ACV vs replacement-cost language, and exclusions. Only your declarations page and carrier can confirm yours.
  3. What the carrier will authorize as the repair method — Patch, section, full tear-off, or (in some cases) an alternative treatment. That is between you, the adjuster, and the written estimate process.

GoNano restoration may be discussed when asphalt shingles are aging or storm-affected but still structurally sound. It is not right for every roof, and it is not a universal substitute for replacement. We are an authorized GoNano installer in Utah. GoNano is a trademark of its owner. We do not claim GoNano or any insurer endorses our company.

What homeowners should not assume

  • Do not assume “hail hit the neighborhood” equals a full roof claim.
  • Do not assume restoration is covered because a neighbor’s was.
  • Do not assume a contractor can bind the insurer.
  • Do not climb the roof after a storm. Wet, damaged, or steep roofs are dangerous. Photograph from the ground, yard, and windows; check attic stains and gutters.

If someone pressures you to sign a blank assignment or promises a specific payout, slow down and call your agent.

How documentation usually helps (without promising outcomes)

Useful documentation is boring and powerful: storm date if known, ground-level photos of debris and dents on soft metal (gutters, vents, AC fins when visible), interior stain photos, and a written inspection noting slopes and details. Temporary tarping or drying steps that stop further damage belong in the receipt pile, per the Department’s guidance.

We can produce a clear condition report after inspection. Your carrier still decides coverage. Related reading (not a claims promise): /post/utah-homeowners-insurance-roof-checklist/.

Where GoNano restoration fits in the conversation

Ask these questions of any Utah contractor, including us:

  • Is this roof a repair, restore, or replace candidate based on condition?
  • If restoration is suggested, what written warranty terms apply (up to 15 years on qualified roofs, backed by a GoNano warranty—ask for the document)?
  • How will the scope be presented so my adjuster can evaluate it?
  • Will you tell me if the honest answer is replacement?

Frequently asked questions

Will insurance pay for GoNano restoration after hail?

Maybe, maybe not. Only your policy and carrier can say. We do not promise approval.

Should I file a claim before an inspection?

Contact your agent promptly after damage, as the Utah Insurance Department advises, and ask what they need. An inspection helps document condition; timing details are between you and the carrier.

Can The NuRoof Guys guarantee a claim outcome?

No. We document roofs and propose honest scopes. Adjusters and policies decide payment.

Is restoration the same as a full roof replacement claim?

No. They are different scopes. Some roofs need replacement; some need repair; some may be restoration candidates. Mixing the words confuses claims.

What if I only have cosmetic granule loss?

Cosmetic vs functional damage is often disputed. Photograph safely, get a professional opinion, and ask your carrier how your policy treats it. Do not invent severity from a blog.
