Roof Repair, Restoration and Replacement in Kaysville, Utah

Repair, Restore, or Replace. Kaysville is one of Davis County's oldest towns, almost entirely owner-occupied, and it publishes some of the highest design wind speeds in our service area. The NuRoof Guys, a licensed Utah roofing contractor, give Kaysville homeowners a free roof inspection and a straight answer.

An old town with a lot of new roofs

Kaysville was settled in 1850 and incorporated on March 15, 1868, the first city incorporated in Davis County, according to the city's own history. In 1854 a town plat laid out the blocks around what became Main Street. The Kaysville–Fruit Heights Museum of History and Art documents the old-town homes that are still standing, such as the four-room brick home William H. Bone built on North Main in 1865 and the Hyrum Stewart home of 1898, built of Ward brick.

Most of Kaysville is much newer. Census estimates for 2020–2024 put the median build year at 1994. By our arithmetic, about three in ten of the city's 9,317 housing units were built before 1980, and nearly four in ten since 2000. The city covers 10.5 square miles and sits at about 4,350 feet near the center (USGS), with homes climbing the bench toward Fruit Heights. Nearly nine in ten occupied homes are owner-occupied, so roof decisions here are personal: stay-or-sell timelines, insurance, and whether the roof is worth restoring or replacing. Older brick homes and 1990s subdivisions raise different roof questions, so the first job is to look.

Hail and wind in this corner of Davis County

On the afternoon of Sept. 18, 2026, preliminary NOAA Storm Prediction Center reports logged 1.5-inch hail about two miles west of Kaysville, just west of I-15, and hail of up to 2 inches a few miles away near Layton, with property damage reported there. The same storm produced a brief tornado reported east of Fruit Heights. Hail an inch or larger is severe by National Weather Service standards. Our hail-damage inspection notes for Layton, Kaysville and Farmington explain what to photograph from the ground and what to leave to a professional.

Wind matters here too. Kaysville City's design criteria for one- and two-family dwellings list a 140 mph design wind speed (ASCE 7-22, Exposure B) and a 30-inch frost depth, with ground snow loads from Utah State University's map. Layton's sheet lists 115 mph and Clearfield's 105 mph. These are design values for new construction, not predictions about your roof. The Sept. 8, 2020 east wind event reached about 100 mph in nearby Farmington and Centerville, according to the Standard-Examiner.

Winter and wet weather

The nearest long-term NOAA station, Farmington 3 NW (about 4,380 feet), records about 20.7 inches of precipitation and 49.6 inches of snow a year, about 122 days at or below freezing, and about 56 days at 90°F or more (1991–2020 normals). When the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel moved through in October 2026, the National Weather Service logged 2.55 inches of rain in Kaysville, among the higher totals on the northern Wasatch Front. Long soaks like that find weak pipe boots, flashing and clogged valleys. Utah DEQ notes that winter inversions often follow snowstorms and hold cold air on the valley floor for days. Read ice dams and freeze-thaw on Northern Utah roofs before the snow sticks.

Repair, Restore, or Replace in Kaysville

Repair. When hail, wind or a long soak causes a specific problem, such as a cracked pipe boot, lifted flashing or a handful of damaged shingles, we repair it and document it with photos. See roof repair and storm damage help.

Restore (GoNano). GoNano roof treatments are for aging asphalt shingle roofs that are still structurally sound. The GoNano white paper describes the system as "a cold-applied, nano-engineered treatment designed to penetrate below the shingle surface" (p. 4), rather than a film that sits on top. Restoration is not right for every roof, and hail damage has to be inspected and repaired first. The inspection decides. When a roof qualifies, the warranty is up to 15 years on qualified roofs, backed by a GoNano warranty. Ask us for the written terms. The NuRoof Guys are an authorized GoNano installer. Read roof sealing vs. rejuvenation, how to tell if your roof is a rejuvenation candidate, the GoNano FAQ, or our page on authorized GoNano installation in Utah. GoNano is a trademark of its owner.

Replace. When shingles or decking have failed, or storm damage is too widespread, replacement is the honest answer, and we'll say so. See roof replacement.

Kaysville roof FAQ

Was Kaysville hit by hail on September 18, 2026?

Yes. Preliminary federal storm reports logged 1.5-inch hail just west of I-15 near Kaysville that afternoon, with larger hail reported near Layton. Whether your roof was damaged takes an inspection, because hail marks often aren't visible from the ground.

A roofer knocked on my door after the storm. What should I do?

Don't sign anything on the doorstep. Verify the contractor's license with Utah DOPL, get a written estimate, and don't pay a large deposit up front. Utah's Insurance Department warns that offers to "waive your deductible" may be illegal. Our Utah homeowners insurance roof checklist walks through the rest.

Should I restore or replace the roof if I might sell soon?

It depends on the roof, not the timeline. If the shingles are aging but structurally sound, GoNano restoration may be an option. If the roof has failed, replacement is the honest answer. A free inspection gives you a written recommendation either way.

Why does Kaysville list a 140 mph design wind speed?

That's the design value Kaysville City publishes for new one- and two-family homes. It's a building-code number for new construction, not a forecast. It's a reminder that wind is a real roof factor along this stretch of the Wasatch Front.
