Roof Repair, Restoration and Replacement in Syracuse, Utah

Syracuse sits near the Great Salt Lake and has grown faster than any other city on this list. Most of its roofs are young.

The newest city we cover

QuickFacts shows Syracuse growing from 32,138 people at the April 2020 estimates base to about 39,900 in July 2025, a rise of 24.2%. The Census puts the median home at 2005, and by our arithmetic from table B25034 about 70% of Syracuse housing units were built in 2000 or later and only about 3% before 1980. About 90% of homes are owner-occupied.

Young roofs, new questions

For roofs this young, the work is often repair and inspection rather than restoration: flashing, boots, ventilation, and wind-lifted tabs. A free inspection from The NuRoof Guys documents a roof’s condition early, which can make later changes easier to recognize. GoNano restoration is aimed at aging but sound roofs and is not right for every roof; our how to tell if your roof is a rejuvenation candidate post explains where the line sits.

Lake-effect snow on the lake’s eastern side

A Monthly Weather Review study documented lake-effect snowstorms from the Great Salt Lake, in which cold air crossing the relatively warm lake produces precipitation that is most common downwind of the lake and along the western slopes of the Wasatch. Davis County’s planning office puts lake-effect snow at roughly 60 inches on the valley floor in a winter, and up to 90 inches on the high bench areas. Snow load and ice are therefore a real part of the picture here. Read ice dams and freeze-thaw on Northern Utah roofs for how freeze-thaw acts on shingles.

Check what your builder’s plans assumed

Syracuse City’s residential plan submittal sheet asks for designs to a 30 psf ground snow load, 90 mph exposure C wind speed, seismic category D2, and a 30-inch frost depth. Nearby Layton and Clearfield publish 43 psf ground snow loads, and Clinton refers to the state map, so the published numbers differ by city. If you are weighing a roof replacement or addition, it is reasonable to ask your contractor which snow-load figure they are designing to and how they confirmed it.
