Roof Repair, Restoration and Replacement in Clearfield, Utah

A wartime depot built Clearfield’s first big housing boom. Today it is a Davis County city with a lot of renters and a lot of roofs owned by someone else.

A city shaped by the Navy depot

According to the Utah History Encyclopedia, the Navy began building the Clearfield Naval Supply Depot in June 1942 and finished in April 1943; the Freeport Center industrial area now occupies that site. Wartime workers needed homes fast, and a Utah State University thesis describes the Anchorage housing project, a temporary cinder-block development the government built for depot employees. Hill Air Force Base borders the city on the east, and Syracuse and West Point lie to its west, toward the Great Salt Lake.

That history is why Clearfield’s housing mix is varied. By our arithmetic from Census table B25034, about 8% of Clearfield homes date from before 1960, about 22% from before 1980, and about 33% from 2000 or later; the median is 1989.

Many Clearfield roofs are rentals

QuickFacts reports that 58.6% of Clearfield housing units are owner-occupied (2020–2024), the lowest rate among the Davis County cities we cover, so roughly four in ten households rent. For landlords and property managers, a roof problem is also a schedule and tenant problem. A free inspection documents the roof’s condition in writing, which helps whether you are deciding between repair and replacement or deciding when to act. If storm damage is involved, our Utah homeowners insurance roof checklist helps you prepare questions for your insurer.

What Clearfield City says about snow, wind and ice

Clearfield’s design criteria sheet lists a 43 psf ground snow load and a 30 psf roof snow load, a 105 mph design wind speed with no special wind region, a “severe” weathering rating, a 30-inch frost line, and ice-barrier underlayment required 24 inches up from the warm side of the exterior wall. Davis County’s planning office adds that lake-effect snow off the Great Salt Lake can bring roughly 60 inches of snow to the valley floor in a winter, and as much as 90 inches on the high bench areas.

Which path fits your Clearfield roof

  • Repair fixes specific failures.
  • GoNano restoration may suit an aging asphalt roof that is still sound; it is not a leak repair and not right for every roof.
  • Replacement is the honest answer when decking or shingles have failed.

We compare the three in roof replacement or restoration in Utah.
